Your responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for an Infrastructure Technician to join our team here at thyssenkrupp Materials UK. Not only will you be using your previous technical experience to plan, coordinate and execute infrastructure changes but also providing helpdesk technical support to our employees.

When required you will be visiting our sites across the UK to install new and maintain IT equipment as well as identify and resolve any network & system vulnerabilities.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong rounded IT knowledge which may have been gained from working within a smaller business and who wishes to take the next step working within a much larger organisation.

thyssenkrupp Materials UK operates a network of strategically-located sites in England and Northern Ireland, offering a vast range of material products such as stainless steel, aluminium and mild steel. We also provide a range of services, whether it be fully welded and fabricated finished parts or bespoke flat products cut to exact sizes. We have years of experience in the aerospace, construction, architecture, automotive and the general engineering industries.

Your main duties will be:

  • Assist in the assessment and design appropriate technical solutions
  • Provide input for planning, coordinating and executing infrastructure changes utilising recognised best administrative practices in a controlled manner ensuring that infrastructure changes do not disrupt the business
  • Identification and removal/mitigation of IT risks
  • Install, configure and maintain IT Client and Server hardware
  • Install, configure and maintain various systems such as telecoms, WAN, LAN, Wireless Networks, virtual servers, VPNs and connectivity protocols
  • Analyse and implement network software or hardware changes
  • Resolve Incidents, problems and service requests to prompt resolution using the ITSM tool
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation
  • Document new and update existing IT procedures
  • Adhere to information security requirements, policies and standards
  • Travelling when required for meetings or site related activities
  • Monitor incidents, problems and service requests throughout their lifecycle using the IT service management tools ensuring completion in a consistent and timely manner

Your profile

Essential experience, skills and knowledge:

  • Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure and maintain customer service ethic
  • Working in collaboration with customers, internal and external colleagues and suppliers
  • Knowledge of VMWare, vCenter, vSphere and ESXi 6.5 or higher
  • Networking – Switches, Routers, SAN Switches, TCP/IP etc.
  • Fault finding and diagnostic skills
  • SAN and Network Storage Solutions
  • Microsoft Technologies – ADFS, TMG, WAP etc.
  • Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP
  • Server Hardware
  • Experience setting up and administering Virtual Servers (VMware preferred)
  • Antivirus configuration – McAfee.
  • Microsoft Cloud Services – O365 and Azure
  • Backup processes
  • Microsoft Certificate Services
  • Knowledge of at least one scripting language (PowerShell, BAT, bash, Perl)
  • Significant Help Desk / Technical support experience in a Windows environment
  • Ability to develop clear, concise documentation
  • A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle

Desirable experience, skills and knowledge:

  • Previous experience of Cyber Essentials
  • Awareness of cybersecurity trends and hacking techniques
  • Vendor certification of the following: MS Windows System Support, Cisco knowledge – LAN / WAN and Wireless
  • Knowledge / Experience of Power BI or other reporting tools
  • Project Management Experience
